The Italian library Le Nuvole offers this spring a cycle of comic workshops and seminars. The March 17th the scriptwriter Giovanni di Gregorio and the illustrator Claudio Stassi, two well-known comic professionals, will share their careers and experinces. During the meeting they will present the next activities organized dedicated to the Genres and language of comics, the Italian comics and How to create your own comic strips.

Claudio y Giovanni will tell us about their experience in this increasingly popular genre of literature. Originally aiming to conquer a young public, comics are today well spread also amongst adults, especially in the form of graphic novels, including fiction narrative as well as documentaries. The italian essayist and movie critic Goffredo Fofi defines graphic novels as “the only art being truly a daughter of our time”.
GENRES AND LANGUAGE OF COMICS

Classical comics and their genres: noir, erotic, adventures.
Graphic novel and serial comics.
The grammar of sequential art.
Italy, France, Belgium, USA and Japan: the different home countries of comics.

ITALIAN COMICS
SATURDAY APRIL 28th, 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. and 4-7 p.m.
The origins of italian comics (Rubino, Tofano) and the great authors in the postwar years: Pratt, Battaglia, Micheluzzi, Crepax, Toppi.
Comics for young readers: “Corriere dei Ragazzi”, “Il Giornalino”, “Tiramolla”, “Geppo”.
The Comics are growing up: the case “Diabolik”.
The role of magazines during the”hot years”: “Linus”, “Frigidaire”, “il Male”, “l’Eternauta”.
The 70s and the “series invasion”: Lupo Alberto, Sturmtruppen, Cattivik.
Political satire: Altan, Vauro, Disegni & Caviglia, Allegra.
Popular comics nowadays: the duopoly Disney – Bonelli.
Comics are about reality: the case of Coconino and BeccoGiallo Editions.

CREATE YOUR OWN COMIC STRIPS
SATURDAY MAY 5th and SUNDAY 6th, 11a.m.-2p.m. and 5-8 p.m.
Workshop: scriptwriting and drawing
1) the script: the subject, linear storyline, the plot, the story-board, the cartoon and the montage.
2) pencil drawing: the proportions in the illustration, studying the characters; analysis of the character in the polygonal scheme: the face, the body, the extremities, twisting, flexion and body dynamics, facial mime, characters’ expression, the character in space. 3) inking techniques and expressivity, light and shadows, the balloons and onomatopoeais.
Workshop of totally 12 hours, in two days. Max 10 participants. Inscription 60 €.
