The Barcelona IED and the IL-3 University of Barcelona (UB) sign an agreement of university recognition

The Barcelona IED and the IL-3 University of Barcelona (UB) sign an agreement of university recognition

5.3.08

The University of Barcelona recognises five 6 Masters at the Barcelona IED Barcelona becomes the first IED campus to obtain a university qualification that recognises the quality of its training and its international prestige The Barcelona campus of the Istituto Europeo di Design has signed an agreement with the Institute for Lifelong Learning at the University of Barcelona (IL-3) for the recognition of six Masters, two of which are conducted in English: Masters in Fashion Marketing and Communications, Masters in Interior Design, Masters in Strategic and Creative Integral Advertising Management, Masters in Fashion Marketing and Trends Research and Masters in Interior Design for Commercial Spaces. This step makes the IED in Barcelona the network’s first campus to obtain a university qualification, an achievement that strengthens its international positioning in the area of training, in terms both of its quality and of the prestige of the courses its offers. The agreement between the two institutions, which has already come into force, will be applied to the Masters courses to be taught in the 2007-08 academic year, which started in October. The document stipulates that all students who successfully complete the Masters courses listed above will receive a qualification issued jointly by the University of Barcelona and by the IED. This qualification will be attributed both to graduates and to students who have previously received a diploma after completing one of the three-year courses at the IED. This agreement therefore constitutes an opportunity for all students attending the IED network to achieve university recognition. The partnership between the IL-3 (University of Barcelona) and the IED will offer students the opportunity to access traineeships organised by both institutions, as well as for the institutions themselves to expand the range of services, initiatives and activities organised to date. In addition, the two institutions will work together both to study new programmes of lifelong and online learning and to develop potential new areas of recognition for the Masters and postgraduate curses organised by the IED in Barcelona. To this end, a Study Co-ordination Committee has been set up, whose members are drawn from both institutions: their task will be to appraise the development of these joint actions. This working partnership between the IL-3 (University of Barcelona) and the IED consolidates the prestige of our network by focusing on quality training, expanding and upgrading the scope of our activities on the international education scene. Why the University of Barcelona? The University of Barcelona recently celebrated its 555th anniversary, confirming its position as Spain’s leading public university, with the largest number of students enrolled and the broadest, most complete range of training on offer. According to the 2005 edition of the Academic Ranking of World Universities, published by the Institute of Higher Education at Xangai Jiao Tong University (XJTU), the University of Barcelona is the only one in Catalonia to make it into the ranking of the world’s top 200 universities and Europe’s top 100. In July 2005, the University of Barcelona established its Institute for Lifelong Learning (IL-3), whose aim is to consolidate and reorganise the University’s lifelong learning and Masters courses. The agreement with the IED marks the first time that the University of Barcelona has ever established a working partnership with a private institution operating in the field of design, fashion and the visual arts.
