CETT Group (UB) and Istituto Europeo di Design has signed a collaboration agreement for the course on Food Event Design

• "Food Event Design" is a training program aimed at professionals from the organization of events and catering
• The course takes place in the school's Advanced Training IED Barcelona
• Col • legi Major Agora BCN provide preferential treatment  to IED Barcelona.

The College of Tourism CETT, attached to the University of Barcelona and the Istituto Europeo di Design in Barcelona, has established a collaboration agreement for the purpose of developing a joint training program aimed at professionals in organizing events and acts where food, meals or gourmet products are the protagonists.

Both institutions have invested the most of their experience and marked the particularity of their specialties, develop and deliver an educational program aimed at professionals from the organization of events and of restoration that will be entitled: "Food Event Design.

The metodolghy  course of 120 hours, beginning on 23 February in the IED, including concept theory, types of events, history of culinary art, reference search, culture, practical exercises, to tastings and master classes with the gourmets chefs and reference. The course ends  organizing an event for a company.

This agreement shows that arts such as design and cuisine, join forces to make way for new trends and turn the social events in a unique multi-sensory experience through the application of creativity in the catering.

The 00 years. The first decade of the XXI Century! is the name of the contest of the three-year and one year courses scholarships that the IED Barcelona has organized for the future students of design and that covers the enrolment fee.

The web http://becas.iedbarcelona.es is the platform chosen by the school to present the candidates and the space in which the projects will be published.

To participate in the contest you have to present a project inspired by The 00 years. The first decade of the XXI Century and present a project interpreting what you mostly emphasize about the first ten years of the XXI century, finding a connection with the course you would like to study.

Modafad has invited yet again the Istituto Europeo di Design of Barcelona´s Fashion Design graduates, to participate in the 29th  edition of their fashion show.

The new  edition of MODAFAD returns under the title of "What remains is future" to present the best emerging designers that comes out of the Fashion design schools.

In this occasion, a total of five IED Barcelona designers will be showing their work in the fashion show of MODAFAD, as well as selling their collections, small works of art in the fashion MerkaFAD market and showroom.

Laura Dieguez, winner in the previous edition of the award for best creativity with her collection Monstruoplastia, returns to MODAFAD to present her new collection "Don’  WARry be happy".
 
"Don’t WARry be happy" is a parody on the human incoherence and intends to talk about the violence that surrounds us through the patterns which are the main characters: Indians, cowboys, guns, soldiers ...

A battle among prints, volumes and colours to reflect how "war", looks as is becoming a children’s play.

Laura Dieguez defines it as a sportswear collection, with oversize unisex garments and also a more feminine line mixed with contrasting textiles such as leather and in the other side knitwear, hydrophobic and plush textile representing the plasticity of this not inocent "game".

In the PASAFAD runway show, this year entitled “What remains is future" we will once more see Ixone Elxo and Alejandra Lorenzo on the catwalk. 
Ixone and Alejandra joined together to work side by side designing the collection “the remains of the future”.

The designers have adapted the word "remains" and giving a new meaning "Remains". The collection is inspired in all the waste and deterioration of walls and facades, houses destroyed , crackle paintings, rusted metal ... from there the panel of colours.

The cuts and accessories are inspired in the workers clothing. The most characteristic feature of the collection, however, is the continued search for such effects by manipulating textiles with the application of bandages, plaster, coffee grounds, glue, paint, latex, bleach, dye painting... They recreate identical textures and colours to the ones that have taken as inspiration. A second line of the collection is set up of digital photographs prints of inspirational images.

In addition, Luis Iglesias, marked by its singular towards the marvellous birds as the  flamingos ,presents in Barcelona his designs with “The Blind Flamingos"

His designs are inspired in a part by the blind people, in a pessimistic vision of the life as if the light was always dull.  The designer imagines and wonders: How do blind people dress up ? How should they relate to the clothes? Therefore the decision to work from the touch, through unidentifiable garments through this sense, fine smooth textiles for the tops, jackets with textures…

The fabrics are silks, cottons and very thin voiles, very pleasant to touch, mixed with textured fabrics. Many black, gray and leather wools.

In addition, the Austrian designer settled in Barcelona, Anita Christina Auernigg present her collection "Dress for evolution" for the first time in PASAFAD.

A vision of the future based on  present times and its dressing style tradition. Structure and body with natural fibers fabrics and mixture, the Minimalist structures adapt to  high developed bodies.

Javier Aguilar presents an exhibition at Barcelona's IED that covers 20 years of his artistic work in "La Vanguardia"; a total of 80 works that stage the history of his best editorial columns. This exhibition, that has already been presented at the "Col·legi de Periodistes de Catalunya", is also an opportunity to open a debate with Javier Aguilar about illustration, its techniques from classical to innovating ones, and the application of a cosmopolitan vision in his work for newspapers like La Vanguardia, El País, Washington Post or Le Monde.

Rose Marie Gnausch presents the subject Project Chronicles with an interesting conference in English about the project she developing at present. She is creating a social sculpture, following Joseph Beuys style, entitled Elephants GoGaneshaGo for Peace (www.elephantsforpeace.com), which tries to reintroduce the real power of art and images, transforming conflict zones into areas of peace and community.

The conference will be used open a debate on the issue, which will be presented by the director of IED Barcelona, Alessandro Manetti, and moderated by Joan Abelló, professor of the subject.

Doble Mirada (‘Double Take’) takes a modern-day look at the city of Barcelona. Doble Mirada offers a double reading or twofold interpretation of the present and future of Barcelona, through MADinBCN and Marca Barcelona. It was designed by IED Barcelona students from all over the world specialising in Visual Arts, Communication and Design as a final-year project in collaboration with Barcelona City Council.

The aim is to describe the city through light-hearted yet visionary stories. It reveals the city’s hidden secrets and includes creatively crafted communication aspects to grab the attention of people worldwide and presents Barcelona as a unique, dynamic city tightly linked to innovation.

Within the framework of the Copenhagen UN Climate Change Conference which is taking place this month, with the purpose of establishing a new global climate agreement, the Climate Summit for Mayors has organized the exhibition: "Future City", a space in which the 12 pioneering sustainability cities present proposals which have already been implemented in their metropolitan areas to combat climate change.

The Barcelona City Council has chosen, as an example of sustainability inside the city, the Informative Solar Bus Stop (PSI), a project designed by students from the Istituto Europeo di Design in collaboration with the Capman S.L. Company.

The PSI is the first solar bus stop of Spain that represents a project conceived under the concepts of sustainable product design, energy efficiency and environmental respect, and accomplishes the following characteristics:

- Sustainable operation: while other bus stops emit about 213.35kg of CO2 per year, PSI doesn’t produce any emissions (0.00 kg/year) and it has a daily consumption of 70 Wh/d, compared to 1228Wh/d of digital stop.

- Low cost, mobile and sustainable: powered by solar energy, it doesn’t require a connection to the public power grid, 100% recyclable structure.

- Advanced and durable design: vandal proof, easy installation and maintenance.

- Innovative design: easily recognized as an element of the transport system and fully integrated in the urban furniture.

- E-Ink displays: electronic ink makes possible a clear reading of the information and has a low energy consumption.

- Bus arrival times: adapted to give information about six bus lines simultaneously, updated every 30 seconds.

- Static information panel: gives information about the transport system maps and bus line paths.

- Night time illumination: Low consumption LEDs.

- Seat: extra service for the citizens, it is made of FSC certified wood.

With the presentation of the PSI at the “Future City” exhibition, in the Copenhagen UN Climate Change Conference, this product reinforces itself as a new city representative symbol, blending in the city not only because of its elegant and modern ascetics but also because of its sustainable and ecological design.

The Winers of the prestigious X National Contest for Packaging, packing and advertising on the retail location, LIDERPACK Awards, organised by the International Packaging Exhibition and Graphispack Association have been announced.

Ana Maurizot and Lander Soriano Graphic design students from IED Barcelona have won the Young Design Award for their packaging proposal made by Barcelona brand Moritz beers.

The design of Moritz Permium beer is inspired by its origin, Barcelona city and how the Cerda Plan uses the Graphics element.

Soon we will announce when and where the awards ceremony will take place. It will be during the first quarter of 2010.
